A   PROMISE

The expression on your face, my friend
Is one of a dear friend grieving
How can I reassure you now
That I'm not really leaving?
I'm traveling down the road a way
I guarantee I will not stay
Forever

In life there are errands that must be run
Things that can't be left undone
It's those things that I'm doing now
That later I may see the sun
I'm traveling down the road a way
I guarantee I will not stray
From friendship

I'll miss you much 'til I return
And for your presence I shall yearn
But I must do this thing myself
And so right now I must adjourn
I'm traveling down the road a way
I guarantee I'll not mislay
Direction

Please hold me now so I remember
Your fragrance, sweet, just like September
In days when memory's all I have
In the deep freeze of December
I'm traveling down the road a way
I promise to return someday
I promise
